I'm current studying journalism and have aspiration to become one, so why not write about something as awesome as the Twilight Saga!!

Different Directors

As any Twilight fan is aware, each installment of the saga will be directed by different directors. Twilight was brought to the screen by director, Catherine Harkwicke, followed by Chris Weitz, who signed onto New Moon, and now David Slade is set to direct Eclipse. Summit hasn't given any details about Breaking Dawn's director, film dates and any information that the film is going to be made. However, I'm confident that we will be seeing a fourth movie in the near-future.

I'm still a little concerned about David Slade, and how he is going to direct Eclipse. Right before David was announced to be the Eclipse director, he made comments about the saga, saying that he would rather shoot himself in the head than watch Twilight. I was a little concerned because he doesn't seem to like the saga. After those comment were made, David Slade suspiciously deleted his Twitter account, probably due to the massive amount of Twilight Fans abusing him for his comments. I'm worried because Eclipse is my favourite book out of all four, and i just hope that David Slade didn't accept the role as director for publicity or money.

There's no doubt about Catherine Hardwicke's passion for the books. She was so enthusiastic and into it saying things like "Welcome to Twilight!!!". She was very sweet to the fans as well. The day before opening night of Twilight, people where lining up waiting all night. Catherine was there, and she spoke to everyone in the line. Gosh! Imagine talking to the director while lining up to see the movie! Although i had several problems with her adaption of Twilight, i still believe that Catherine Harkwicke genuinely cared about the Saga. The only reason Catherine didn't want to direct New Moon was because of the schedule. She believed that she couldn't make a good movie in the time space, so rather than try to do it, she did the right thing for the Saga and gave the job to someone else who would be able to do it. Everything Catherine did, she did for the benefit of the films.

Chris Weitz is passionate about the saga as well, however it's a different type of passion. Chris is a very calming and smooth person, just by looking at him he puts you at ease. When he was first announced as the New Moon director, he sent out a letter to all of the Twilight fans, reassuring us that everything was going to be OK, and that he was going to portray New Moon faithfully and that there isn't anything to worry about. That was very nice and caring of him to do, because it evidently shows that he cares about the fan's opinions and he wanted to put our minds at ease because I'm sure most of the Twilight fan freaked out when they heard that Catherine wasn't going to direct. When Christan Serratos turned up on set, she said that Chris had written a 20 page essay on how he wanted New Moon to be made, and how he wanted it to feel. Wow, talk about dedication, he sat down and wrote pages and pages of what his vision was for New Moon, and how he intended to bring it to the screen just to help the cast and crew. With New Moon completed now, we have had a look at the teaser trailer, and those two clips from ComicCon, I feel safe to say that Chris has kept him promise. He quality of film is so much better; the make-up, the sets, the clothing, everything has been improved. Even that blue tone that Twilight had is gone, replaced with a golden colour that makes everything so bright, warm and inviting. Chris has also kept lots, and lots of quotes from the books, which i really appreciate. Even though the film is still in Post-Production, i know it's going to be better than Twilight, and Chris Weitz is responsible for that.

However, David Slade. I'm not at all confident about him directing Eclipse. It has a long time since he has been announced as the director and he hasn't even brought out a letter, like Chris Weitz did, to talk to the fans. We haven't really received any information from him at all, apart from his twitter account which is just a few pictures and saying that he is storyboarding at the moment, and that's it. He created a new twitter after he deleted the old one. All we have got from David is a few mild insults, an apology and that's it. Catherine was very vocal about her passion for Twilight, with all of those video's from the set, and just press and everything. Chris seems like a genuinely nice guy who wanted to bring our books to life, and please the fans. Plus, he is also very intelligent and funny, i was literally laughing out loud at some of the things he said at ComicCon, and in interviews. I really like Chris, and will probably go to see some of his future movies. He has obviously stayed true to the books, and has given the fans what they want. But David, I'm just not sure about him. I don't want to speculate too much, because they haven't even started filming yet, but I'm just concerned that he might be doing it to get attention, and a massive sum of cash from Summit. I guess we will have to wait an see, because Eclipse starts shooting in about 2 weeks, I'm so excited for that though despite my concerns. There are so many fabulous scenes in Eclipse that i cant wait to see portrayed. Like the tent scene, the scene where Bella goes to the bonfire and hears all of the Quileutes legends, the newborns fight, and when Bella punches Jacob in the face for kissing her. OMG!! I'm SO excited and i just hope to God that David Slade is a good director and stays true to the books, because right now, it isnt looking very good. :(
