The Twilight Impulse

My thoughts and impressions of the Twilight Saga, written by the fabulous Stephenie Meyer

Name:

Hey, I'm a massive Twilight Fan, and thanks to my friends being fed up with having to listern to my non-stop chattering about Twilight, i decided to create a blog for myself to just vent and document my twilight obsession!! I'm current studying journalism and have aspiration to become one, so why not write about something as awesome as the Twilight Saga!!

Taylor's in Valentine's Day

When the first “Valentine's Day” trailer was released, I was positive that Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift only had really minor roles. “Valentine's Day” is essentially about intertwining stories of couples around Valentine's Day, and with such a huge star cast, I figured that both Taylor's had tiny roles. Also, Garry Marshall only filmed a short time with them and that they weren't even in the first trailer, or even in the end credits with the big named stars like Jessica Alba, Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jamie Foxx, Anne Hathaway etc.

Now, I’m pretty sure that Garry Marshall has made both Taylor's parts bigger. Recently, they were shooting more scenes with them, so either it's going to be in the movie or on the DVD, at least. Now, the second trailer has been released, Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift are both shown a couple of times. And, in the poster, their faces are right in the centre and their names are in the credits along with the other big stars now, when they weren’t there before.

I'm convinced that due to Taylor Lautner's popularity from New Moon, they figured if he had a bigger role, lots more girls would be inclined to see the film, though they were probably going to go anyway. I'm sure the producers on Valentine's Day saw Taylor in New Moon, and when they checked out that he could actually act really well, they wanted him to do more scenes with Swift, rather than just initially having him because he would be very popular.

Plus, Taylor Swift has had a very big year. She has been winning so many awards, and getting so much recognition, making her part bigger along with Taylor Lautner, would be better for the picture, because so many people like her. I'm not sure how well Taylor Swift can act, but judging from her music videos, she isn’t horrible, so I guess I will just have to check out the film to see. Taylor Swift did an episode CSI, so maybe she has some promise as an actor. However, really hope she does well, though I don't usually like franchise people who are actors/singers/designers/ who release their on fragrance and lots of rubbish crap like pencil cases. They just look like sell-outs, but I don’t think Taylor Swift is.

I really think this is just a PR stunt to get more people to see the film. I mean, if you aren't a fan of Twilight, or a massive Taylor Swift fan, you probably wouldn’t know they were even in the film, because they weren’t in the first trailer or even the end credits of that trailer. It's smart to feature them more prominently in the second trailer, and putting both of their faces front and centre in the poster, and now being listed in the credits when they weren’t before, because they are so popular. Also, with suspicion about their relationship, it will be interesting to see how much on screen chemistry they have.

PS. I really love the poster. It's so HOT!! As you can probably tell, there is a Twilight News drought!! :( Plus, i love how it's being released 1 day after Taylor's 18th birthday. Haha, now all of the Twilight moms can perve on Taylor without him being illegal!

Alice's Letters in New Moon

Some people that I know, who have read the book, are having issues with Melissa Rosenberg's insertion of Bella's constant letters to Alice throughout the entire film’s adaptation. They are essentially saying that it's poor writing if you have to tell your audience rather than showing them.

However, I disagree. I think that it was smart of Melissa to add this in. It shows Bella's inability to let go of the Cullen's. Despite having every single email being declined, Bella still persists trying to contact them. If Bella stopped emailing them, this would be Bella admitting to herself that they aren’t coming back, and that isn't something she is capable of doing.

Secondly, it show's Bella and Alice’s relationship. Due to the time constraints, I was worried that Melissa wouldn’t be able to portray how strong Bella and Alice's relationship is, considering Alice is only in the start of the film, and a tiny bit at the end. If she didn't find a way to show how strong it was, the audience who hadn’t read the book would be so confused as to why Bella would be so thankful that Alice is back, because no relationship was ever established with her.

Bella confiding in Alice all her emotions and thoughts, even though they weren’t being sent, shows that Bella trusts Alice with the truth about how she is feeling when she lies to everybody else, especially Charlie and Jacob. This depicts their relationship perfectly, because no matter what Edward did to her, she is not angry with Alice, and wants nothing more than to see her, even when she deserts all of her other friends; Mike, Jessica etc. Bella doesn’t care about her high school friends, so she doesn’t want to keep in contact. However, she cares dearly about Alice, so even though she is not there, she still tries to contact her. Melissa did a good job at showing the audience how close they are, and I really like the letters to Alice.

The letters could also be a tool to help explain what Bella is feeling for those who haven’t read the book. Everyone who has knows exactly how Bella feels, as Twilight is a first-person narrative. So, in order to help a broader audience actually understand Bella's thoughts, emotions, relationships and motivations otherwise they would probably be totally ignorant as to what Bella is feeling. Melissa did a good job trying to bring across information in a format that wasn’t as if Bella was telling the audience, but Bella confiding in her close friend, Alice.

I don't care what my friends thought of this, because I liked it very much. In a film, everything is fabricated, so I honestly believe that Melissa did this with a specific purpose, and not just because she thought the fans of the book needed to be blatantly told what Bella was feeling. I feel that it was just added in for the people who haven’t read the book, and to help convey Bella and Alice’s' relationship, as they don't get much air time. So, stop ragging on Melissa Rosenberg. I feel that she was gotten much better, compared to Twilight.

Chaske Spencer in Rehab

Initially I thought that this was just a very bad rumour that someone had made up, like Vanessa Hudgens auditing for Leah Clearwater. Anyway, some "source" said what Chaske had been in rehab with him for apparently methamphetamines or cocaine. I've seen Chaske in public, in interviews, and in New Moon and I never thought that there would be any truth to it at all. It just sounded ridiculous, because I can never in a million years see Chaske in any place where Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears have regular visits to. It just didn’t make sense

However, it was true, Chaske said so himself in a statement. He went to a rehab for Native Americans because he felt more comfortable with them. But, what this source didn’t say was that it was 19 months before Chaske has landed New Moon. I'm just glad that he was honest about it, telling everyone straight out what the story was, so they wouldn’t go around making assumptions and making something huge about just rumours going around which are totally untrue.

I'm really happy that Chaske is clean, and has been since he got out. He is such a nice guy, that even though he released a statement confirming it, I still can’t ever see him in there. It's crazy. I like him so much more now that he appears like a human with problems just like everyone else, well some other people. It makes him more likable because he has made mistakes and has moved on from a life he didn’t want to live. Good for him. Love you, Chaske! Really hope you stay clean and healthy.

Taylor on SNL

Yay!! Taylor Lautner is going to be hosting SNL on the 12th of Dec!! I can't wait but it sucks because SNL doesn't air in Australia, so I’m going to have to watch it online somehow. I really, really hope somebody posts the entire episode.

I'm really excited about this. Oh, think of all the Twilight parodies that are going to be done. I bet there is going to be one about taking his shirt of all the time, or being attacked by crazy Twilight fans who want him to growl and stuff. That would be funny! I really hope that he mentions Taylor Swift because when she hosted SNL, she sang about him in her song entitled "Monologue Song," during her intro, which was really funny.

I'm hoping that having Taylor on will encourage more of the cast to go on SNL. Personally, I think that Peter Facinelli would be PERFECT for it!! Peter is just a great guy, with a great sense of humour. It also helps that he is intelligent, witty and very funny. Also, Alex Meraz would totally do a SNL if he was asked. Alex is just a friendly guy, who is very funny as well. I mean, both Peter and Alex's tweets are hilarious and witty. They'd be great on SNL.

Lots of fans are disappointed that Taylor is going to be on SNL before Robert is. However, Rob didn’t want to go on it, and personally I don’t think he would be able to do it. Rob has enough trouble trying to get out a sentence in a press interview, so doing anything before an entire audience and on TV would be horrible. I know he has gotten much better in his interviews, but I just think it would be a disaster. Yay, Taylor! Can't wait to see your performance. Hope it’s good!

Eclipse Updates

I'm pretty sure that David Slade and Summit aren’t going to release any more Eclipse details until early next year. One, I’m pretty sure that Summit is currently occupied with how to do Breaking Dawn and doing all the complicated things like finding a time space when all the actors are free, how to create Renesmee, and whether they will split it into two films.

Two, New Moon has just been released so they would probably leave some space in between New Moon information and Eclipse because then the fans won't get bored of everything New Moon, and only care about Eclipse details. Although, I don't think that is going to happen. It makes logical sense from a marketing perspective, because they are probably still trying to sell New Moon merchandise, before bringing in anything Eclipse related yet.

Three, I'm sure that the editors of Eclipse are going to be more concerned with actually editing the film and getting it done of time, than wasting it trying to produce things for the fans when it's seriously early in the editing process.

The Twilight films are on such a tight timeline, that if anything doesn't get finished on time, I’m almost positive that it would affect the release date, just like it did with one of the Harry Potter films being pushed back or about a year or something. DW, I’m not a Harry Potter fan, I just listen to "Imprint" which is a Twilight Podcast done by Andrew, Matt, Elysa and Laura, who also do a HP podcast too. So, they always bring up HP, which is pretty annoying but whatever. But listen to them, Imprint is really great!

Oh, and BTW, whenever David Slade tweets, why does he always use symbols and not the English language? I can never understand anything he is saying!! And I just want information, any information!! However, I’m so excited for Eclipse because we have only got one still of Bella and Edward sitting in the Meadow. I’m pretty sure it's at the end of the film; where she tells Edward her conditions about marriage and says that it's time to tell Charlie, well, basically just the last scene in the book!! So excited, as Eclipse is my favourite!! David, you have allot to live up to, especially compared to Chris Weitz’s New Moon!! Bring IT!

Critics and New Moon

New Moon is getting pretty bad reviews from the critics. They just don't like the film, and I think that they are somewhat influenced by how bad the first one was. I mean, they would probably be thinking, well Twilight was awful so Twilight 2 isn't going to be any better. Anyway, regardless of what they say, New Moon is a HUGE success.

New Moon wasn't made for critics and to get good reviews. No, New Moon was made for the FANS of the books! Some old guy who has been reviewing films for 20 years isn’t going to like it or going to stop the fans from enjoying it, because personally, I loved it. It was amazing compared to Twilight. Everything that was criticised in Twilight was addressed in New Moon. The music, the make-up, the hair, the costumes, the screenplay, the acting, literally EVERYTHING was improved. As a fan, that's all I can ask for; that they keep improving the series, and learning from the mistakes they made in previous films like the actors heavy breathing, and the blue tint which was present in Twilight.

If you don't like the books, then you are probably not going to like the films. The critics tend to go a little too in-depth like "Are Edward and Jacob metaphors for sexuality?" and garbage like that. Umm, no they're not. Stephanie Meyer said herself that when she was writing the books, she didn’t have a moral or point to the stories like some books do. She wrote them for herself and to be enjoyed for entertainment purposes; in turn they are internationally loved by billions of fans worldwide.

Some other critics are saying that Stephanie’s depiction of Bella and Edward's relationship is toxic, and unhealthy. Well, realistically that would be true. However, this is a FICTION FANTASY series, and isn't supposed to be taken literally. The books are targeted a teens. They are grown up enough to distinguish between fantasy and reality. Bella and Edward's relationship wasn't supposed to be viewed as toxic, it was supposed to be romantic, as Twilight is a romance novel!! Jeez people, fictional characters, especially vampires and werewolves aren’t real, and I’m positive that EVERYONE knows that. It's just cool to be taken out of reality and given this supernatural love story which every girl fantasises about.

Anyway, I don't give a shit what the critics say. I thought New Moon was an excellent representation of the novel. Twilight wasn't aimed at being an Oscar nominated movie with Critics raving about it; it was made specifically for the fans who supported Twilight. All of my Twilight loving friends loved it too. So, critics can just shove it, because whether the like New Moon or not, it is going to be a massive success. I don't give a shit what they say because it isn’t going to detract from my viewing experience of one of my favourite novels. Chris Weitz, I think you did an amazing job!! Can't wait to see what you do with “The Gardener”.

Rolling Stone hectors Taylor about his Sexuality

Ok, I’m so pissed off at Rolling Stone right now! They interviewed Taylor for his cover on Rolling Stone magazine. Inevitably, Taylor's relationship with Taylor Swift came up. Since Taylor didn’t deliver the answer that Rolling Stone was looking for, they decided to take another avenue to try and get some information about their relationship. Rolling Stone asked totally inappropriate questions about Taylor's sexuality and essentially insinuated that he is gay. Perhaps they were trying to shock Taylor so that he would strongly deny it and back it up further evidence by unveiling his alleged romantic relationship with Taylor Swift. It didn’t turn out the way they tried to manipulate the situation.

Taylor, like the champ he is, professionally and gracefully refused to answer the question. That sparked more rumours that Taylor hasn’t discovered his sexuality, or is gay but trying to hide it. That is so inappropriate and just plain wrong. Taylor is only 17, and to be hectored and probed about his personal life by the media is just not on. I mean, how is Taylor's sexuality anyone business?? Its not!! Leave the kid alone. His sexual orientation that NOTHING to do with anything! The film he is promoting doesn’t have any underlying homosexual themes, or anything. So where did this come from?? Probably just Rolling Stone trying to get information by embarrassing and intimidating Taylor to sell more magazines.

Anyway, so what if Taylor is gay! Some gay people have a hard time coming out even when they are way older, and without the media to report their private lives to everyone in every single country!! It was shameful to put Taylor in that position. He knew that everything he said was going to be recorded, and then printed a million times over, and sent around for everyone to read. I don't care if he is gay, but if it's his choice to keep his private life to himself, then everyone should respect that. This Rolling Stone reporter didn’t care about the effect it would have on Taylor, he just wanted to sell more magazine by forcing personal information from Taylor by pressuring and intimidating him. That's disgraceful to try and force a young kid to admit to the whole world something he has probably been personally struggling with his entire life, and to berate him like that is unforgivable.

Is there any evidence that Taylor is gay anyway?? Hardly any, they're just rumours. And, aren’t journalists supposed to ask questions relevant to the person they are interviewing? This would be New Moon. So, why did this Rolling Stone guy feel the need to probe Taylor about something which is irrelevant? Some great journalist huh? Taylor has had many girlfriends, his celebrity crushes are Jessica Alba and Megan Fox, and he loves sport. Those are evidence that Taylor is probably straight. However, if he is gay, good for him. I don't care, that doesn’t affect how well he does his job, or who he is as a person. His sexuality would have no effect on me. I would like him just as much if he was gay. Asking someone about their sexuality is just as dumb as asking someone why they are black! It's stupid, rude, and just insulting.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being gay, because there isn’t. However, if someone makes the choice to keep it to their closest friends and family, that's their decision. Just because other celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris, Anthony Callea, or Tim Campbell have come out, doesn't mean its right for others. I find it so infuriating that Taylor was subjected to such scrutiny when he is still a young kid. I mean, it would be horrible if something personal about yourself was broadcasted across the nation or everyone to see and judge. Argh, it's so preposterous that it makes me angry.

Although, I can see where these rumours have come from. Taylor is gorgeous!!! He is well groomed, dresses REALLY well, takes care of himself, and has flawless clear skin, perfect smile, and great hair. Just because those are aspects of who he is doesn't necessarily equal gay. Ever heard of metros, Rolling Stone?? Obviously not, because their ignorance about common decency and respect has evidently evaded them. Fuck off!! Don’t you have anything better to do than investigate personal parts of innocent peoples lives, when it has NOTHING to do with them in the first place!! Leave Taylor alone.

It is so unethical to ask question like that to him, when he is giving up his time to give you an interview. Some people would have walked right out, but I give Taylor props for being mature, and graceful, even though his evasive answer wasn’t what Rolling Stone were looking for. Fuck off, dick heads!! Find some other innocent, young boy to pick on, because Taylor has got allot of people to back him up. And, if you are too ignorant, and stupid to notice, he could kick their asses to Pluto and back with his eyes shut any day of the week. Ever seen Taylor's ripped body and his mad martial arts skills? Oh no, they are too obsessed with trying to publically influence, and intimidate young actors, who are still trying to find their way in life, and don't need to be subjected to stupid, arrogant fuck heads at Rolling Stone!!!

New Moon Numbers...

Wow, New Moon is still breaking records!! New Moon has only been out for over a week and the total amount film has made is $473.7 million. WooHoo, go New Moon!!! Tons of fans want Chris Weitz to direct Breaking Dawn, and so do i. Except, if Breaking Dawn is split into two, i want him to do the second half, as that's were Renesmee is growing, and out of Bella, which requires lots of CG skill. I think that Chris can handle that! GO, New Moon!!!
